JOHNS ISLAND 300-400 YRS OLD
65 feet high with a circumference of 25.5 feet and shading 17,000 square feet, Johns Island, known as a "A Lowcountry Treasure," is considered to be the largest Live Oak Tree east of the Mississippi.
ISLE OF PALMS
25,000 YEARS OLD
First inhabited by the indigenous Seewee Indians. They were said to have greeted the first English settlers to the area by swimming to the ships and carrying the travelers to shore.
GEORGETOWN - 1718
Originally 500 acres, today Mansfield Plantation covers nearly 1000 acres and is recognized as "one of the most architecturally intact rice plantations in South Carolina." The plantation is also a member of the National Register of Historic Places.
What makes sweetgrass baskets special is how, rather than being made with typical weaving techniques like plaiting or twisting, they are instead made by Gullah artists who employ the West African tradition of coiling.
CHARLESTON TEA GARDEN
WADMALAW ISLAND - 1963
Research began in 1963, and in 1987 William Hall purchased the land. He converted the farm into a commercial operation making the first tea 100% grown in America. In 2003 Bigelow Tea Company bought Hall out.
MURRELLS INLET - 1931
Atalaya Castle was built by Archer Huntington and his wife between 1931 and 1933. Archer was a philanthropist from NY and designed the house to be a winter residence for him and his wife Anna who was an artist and sculptor.

Brookgreen Gardens is a National Historic Landmark District (1992), encompassing two formerly-united properties (9,100 acres) associated with sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington. Both properties were part of a large estate developed by the Huntington's in the 1930's. It includes the nation's first formal sculpture garden, and one of the studios at which Huntington did her most productive work.

The Carolina Marsh Tacky is a Spanish horse breed brought to the island and coastal area of South Carolina by Spanish explorers and settlers.
MONKEY ISLAND - 1979
Morgan Island is a 4,489-acre of marshland that has 635 acres of upland. Uninhabited, it is home to 3,500 rhesus monkeys, and are studied by environmental researchers. Thus, affectionally known as Monkey Island.
