If you are from the south, you have cooked in or heard about Lodge Cast Iron skillets. A southern staple, a cast iron skillet produces some of the most flavorful dishes as it has been seasoned by the history of your home kitchen.

While Lodge Cast Iron is a household name in the south, do you know the history of the company and the many offerings they provide? Well have no fear!!! I got you covered!!

Lodge Cast Iron Skillet was created in 1896 in South Pittsburgh, TN by Joseph Lodge. That is right my friends – 120 years ago!!!! Wow!! Now, Lodge wasn’t always Lodge. Let me clarify...the company started under the name, Blacklock Foundry. In 1910, the foundry had a devastating fire. Three months later the family rebounded and reopened down the street as Lodge Cast Iron.

Throughout the next 110 years, Lodge survived the Great Depression; become industry pioneers in the areas of safety and innovation; was awarded the Tennessee Governor’s Award for Excellence in Hazardous Waste Reduction in 1994; and in 2002 became the first in the industry to season their skillets in the foundry.

Throughout the years, Lodge has positioned itself as the leader in the cast iron market and boasts a variety of cast iron products and accessories including the classics (of course) as well as bakeware, cookbooks, cooking utensils and replacement parts as needed.

When we were developing our Tennessee gift boxes we knew that our boxes would not be complete without the inclusion of Lodge. We worked with the Lodge team and researched their products and landed on three different items which are featured in our Authentically Tennessee and Let’s Get Cookin’ Tennessee boxes.

We hope you enjoy Lodge as much as we do and would love to hear about any recipes that you create utilizing their skillets. They truly are one of a kind. Bon Appetit Y’all!
